NHS Funding and Waiting Times

I have been contacted by a considerable number of my constituents about about the progress made in delivering the NHS's own plan for its future, the Five Year Forward View, for which I thank all of those who took the time to raise with me.

Bees and Pesticides

I have been contacted by a considerable number of my constituents about bees, for which I thank all of those who took the time to contact me to share their views.

Ambulance Response Times

Responding to an article in the Yorkshire Post (available here), Stuart has written to the Chief Executive of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the Secretary of State for Health to seek answers on why emergency response times to top-priority calls have not met their target times at all in some areas of Pudsey, Horsforth and Aireborough.

EU Referendum

As you will no doubt be aware, Stuart announced his intention to vote to leave the European Union, and his statement as to why can be viewed on this website. Stuart was always keen to hear the views of his constituents, and he invited them to complete a survey and contact him with any concerns or questions they may have had, as well as holding a public meeting in the constituency on the subject. It was never Stuart's intention to persuade any of his constituents to vote how he had chosen to.

Improving Local Transport

As part of my six-point plan when I stood for re-election in 2015, I pledged to work to improve local transport across the constituency and the wider city. After the election, I was made the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Transport, Patrick McLoughlin. In this role, I assisted the Secretary of State in the House of Commons Chamber, liaised with MPs, arranged briefing meetings and offered other such support.

Inquiry into Living with Heart Failure

In his role as Chair of the APPG on Heart Disease, Stuart has launched an Inquiry into Living with Heart Failure. The Inquiry provides an opportunity to work with patients, health care professionals, the Government and NHS England to identify ways to improve the outcomes and experience for people with heart failure, and their families and carers.

Flooding Response

Stuart has met with fellow Leeds MPs, cross-party, and the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, to discuss flood defences in Leeds following the recent floods across Yorkshire. At the meeting, it was made clear that Leeds requires a comprehensive flood defence system, which takes account of residential and business property requirements.

Airstrikes in Syria

I have been contacted by hundreds of constituents regarding the recent vote in Parliament to extend air strikes to Syria. Due to the volume of correspondence I have received on the issue, I have pasted below my response on the matter:

Fracking & Shale Gas

I have been contacted by a number of constituents on fracking and the use of shale gas.

Pothole Watch

Potholes are becoming an increasing problem throughout our constituency and, whilst a nuisance, they can also prove to be dangerous, particularly in residential areas.  I am therefore launching this campaign so that any concerned constituents can make me aware of potholes in their area, as this will then allow me to bring them to the attention of Leeds City Council and get the damage repaired.
