As the co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on High Speed Rail, Stuart Andrew MP has today welcomed the vision set out by Sir David Higgins to maximise the benefits of HS2 and to greatly improve east/west connectivity across the north.
Stuart Andrew MP said: "Connectivity in the north is something that has long been overlooked and I am therefore delighted that Sir David is now talking about this issue. It once took me four hours to travel by train from Wrexham to Leeds, so I know first-hand the importance of better connecting cities throughout the north of the UK.
Indeed, many of the transport links between some of our major cities such as Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Hull are far from adequate and it is about time that something is done to address this. Not only is this the only way to secure more jobs and investment in the north, but it will go a long way towards rebalancing the economy in the UK."
