Stuart Andrew MP welcomes the publication of a joint report today from the negotiators of the European Union and the British Government

The report, which outlines the progress made in the first phase of negotiations and follows months of hard work, reflects Theresa May’s commitment to three clear promises:

  • To guarantee the rights of EU citizens living in the UK – as long as the EU guarantees the rights of British people living in the EU

  • No hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland – while keeping the Common Travel Area

  • A fair financial settlement to the EU – but no more. So from 29 March 2019, when we formally leave the EU, we can spend that money on our NHS and public services

Stuart Andrew said “The report marks an important turning point in the negotiations, I am extremely encouraged by the progress which has been made and that the United Kingdom can now get on and begin trade negotiations with the European Union.”
