Stuart recently attended the Mental Health for Young People showcase held at Pudsey Civic Hall hosted by an advocate for mental health, Scott Buckler.
The event brought a full day of seminars and stalls to Pudsey Civic Hall with the hopes of shining a light on support available in West Yorkshire, including groups Youth in Mind and Yorkshire Mentoring.
Stuart said: “I was very inspired to learn of the efforts of Scott to promote the services available for mental health support in West Yorkshire and I was delighted to be able to attend and learn more about the great local organisations available for support.
Mental health is so important, and I am pleased that the Government has announced more funding to better diagnose and treat young people’s mental health problems and have launched Every Mind Matters, a programme to help people to take simple steps to look after their mental health. A new £35 million research programme will give more support to teenagers battling with mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, self-harm and eating disorders. Academics will also look at some of the causes of mental health issues, as well as how we can better identify vulnerable young people and ensure frontline health services support them earlier to get the help they need.
I would encourage any of my constituents who feel like they are struggling to get in touch with their local organisations, groups and health services and to not suffer in silence. There are some fantastic organisations locally and they are always ready to help should any of my constituents ever need the support.”
