Stuart Andrew MP issues World AIDS Day call for British Leadership to tackle global HIV

Local MP, Stuart Andrew, marked World AIDS Day and the 30th anniversary of the discovery of AIDS by pledging his commitment to ensuring the UK does all it can to bring an end to the epidemic. At an event hosted by the APPG on HIV and AIDS in Westminster, Stuart Andrew MP met with students and campaigners to discuss the UK’s role in the effort to tackle the virus.

Local MP Praises Government Announcement on Rail Investment in Leeds

During the Autumn Statement in the House of Commons this afternoon the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced infrastructure projects which will support growth in Yorkshire and Humber. These include the electrification of the Transpennine Express and the creation of two new railway stations, Kirkstall Forge and Apperley Lane.

MP for Pudsey calls for the Safe and Sustainable review to revise its options regarding the closure of the Leeds Children's Heart Surgery Unit

MP for Pudsey, Mr Stuart Andrew MP questioned the Minister of State for Health, Mr Simon Burns MP, at this week’s health questions on Tuesday 22nd, in light of new evidence that most families in Yorkshire and the Humber will travel to Liverpool or Leicester rather than Newcastle if the Children’s Heart Surgery Unit in Leeds was to close. Mr Andrew, who is currently heading up the campaign in Westminster to save the Unit, has raised this issue several times with the Secretary of State for Health during earlier Parliamentary Questions sessions.

Suicide Prevention discussed in Parliament

Minister of State for Care Services, Paul Burstow MP, met this week with members of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Suicide and Self Harm Prevention to discuss a new Suicide Prevention Strategy for England which is due early 2012.
